Gem & Friends in dB's

Maurits of the band Gem backstage kissing his neighbour Frederike. I wish I had a neighbour like that... :)"How much Rock&Roll do you want?", Maurits exclaims. Well, we got enough of that on his birthday party in dB's. With his band Gem, Spider Rico, Low Point Drains and Bobby Kingsize, Maurits had a party of his dreams. Backstage, Maurits got some of that Rock & Roll himself as well, as the pic shows...

I'm not in love...

Promo-pic of Roely & Me, aka The Melody BrothersI should have finished up on this song weeks ago, but here it is. It's called The Loving Game. Of course in a raw version, but I can't wait to put it on the web. I made the original version with Roely, but I altered the stuff quite a bit into something listenable.
It's for a woman I not so secretly love, but I'm afraid it's a one way street :(
This is my last effort - yeah right - to win her heart. I promised to give the song as a birthday present, but her birthday was more than a week ago...

Oh, well here goes nothing. Wish me luck...

Shooting pics

I made a lot of pics lately. You can see some of them on my photopages, and some in a few reviews that got published on the 3VOOR12-website, here and here.

The pic you see here is a play by Theatergroup Mirror, called "1001 Fairytales of the Soul". The play is about domestic violence. Quite heavy, but it works. The actress up front is Rianne, and she's a new friend of mine. I have to miss her for a few months, because she's studying in Sweden now. So she's the opposite of the Swedish exchange student! She's also working for 3voor12/amsterdam - like me. Check out her other work on her blog. I hope to visit her in Sweden before she gets back. Then I'll also have the chance to meet up with the people of Music77 again. They're a great band.

Uploaded a new song

Well, that gig went pretty bad. But I had a lot of fun, anyway. Robin Block joined me on stage for two of his own songs. That went very good. Even that good, that Robin was asked to come back for a full show. I'll be playing with him as well then. They'll see me coming: "Oh no, not him again!".
Later that night I had a party at Rianne's, and we played some more. Needless to say, it already went a thousand times better.

Another thing worth mentioning: I made three new songs with Roely! I think we have made seven songs now, apart from the songs we made by ourselves. I've posted 'I Rock Myself To Sleep' on my Soundclick page. the song is still a bit dodgy, but that's how far we got this weekend. I see my art as a work in progress. I prefer it blogged and downloaded as raw material instead of released on cd when it's finished. I'm updating my songs whenever I got time to work on them, so in the end you should see a finished product. Maybe for some people the first draft would be better, while others get put off by some of the initial raw edges.

First gig of Halfhide coming up: tomorrow!

Oops, what did I do? I hardly have an act together and I already agreed to play some of my own songs. Tomorrow! Thursday, that is. This morning under the shower, I had a brainwave with ideas. And tomorrow I already have a chance to put it into action! The gods are not being patient with me...
I want to present myself as a singer/songwriter, but not necessarily with a guitar. Instead, I plan to sample the guitar and play the drums live! That's the other way around, I know. But I'm a better drummer than guitarist, so it's only obvious. Lately I'm starting to find out that it's always better to do what comes naturally. And not care about what others might want you to do. It's nothing new, but I found out that I haven't really done it yet...
I'll only play three or four songs. The rest will be done by The Honeybees, where you'll see me drum as well. If you bother to show up, of course.

Here's the date:
Thursday, January 6, Parnassos Utrecht, from 9 PM. Free entrance (that means no pay for the musicians).
Address: Kruisstraat 201, Utrecht

Happy New Year! (and a new song I wrote :)

It's not finished yet, but I can't wait to share it. It's called Swallow, and it's about shouting at eachother. I'm not so good at that, but I'm learning... :)
This is the song, I'm afraid you have to become a member or something before you can listen. I'm planning to change that, but for now it has to be this way.
